Protein är en makronäring uppbyggd av aminosyror som är nödvändiga för muskeluppbyggnad, reparation och många andra biologiska processer. Kompletta proteinkällor (som vassleprotein, kasein, ägg) innehåller alla essentiella aminosyror. Vassleprotein (whey) absorberas snabbt och är rikt på grenade aminosyror (BCAA), särskilt leucin som stimulerar muskelproteinsyntesen.
